WHAT IS IT?
Preteens Can Pray is a series designed to help preteens learn that it’s not too early for them to begin building a relationship with God through prayer. The series helps students understand prayer more, feel more comfortable praying and realize the power of their prayers. They will spend time journaling, memorizing scripture, discussing the truths of God’s Word with one another, and having an absolute blast in the process. During the final week of this series, small groups will practice all that they’ve learned about prayer.

OVERVIEW:
WEEK 1: GETTING TO KNOW YOUR BEST FRIEND
God desires a friendship with his children. He has given us the tremendous blessing of prayer to allow us to get to know Him. Students will be reminded that a great friend is a great listener, someone we can talk to about anything, and someone we want to spend time with. God meets all of those needs for us and tells us in Ephesians 6:18 that we can come to him with all of our requests.
WEEK 2: ENDING AWKWARD CONVERSTAIONS
Prayer can feel awkward. Remind students that it’s just a conversation between them and God. Challenge them to confess their sins to remove barriers between them and God, and help personalize prayer in a way that makes it comfortable. Memorize Philippians 4:6 to serve as a constant reminder that we can come to God anytime about anything.
WEEK 3: UNDERSTANDING HOW JESUS TAUGHT US TO PRAY
Take a look at how Jesus taught us to pray in Matthew 6:9-13, the Lord’s Prayer. Learn the ACTS model for prayer (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) to give students a guide for their prayer time.
Week 4: REALIZING MY SUPER-HUMAN STRENGTH IN CHRIST
Read the incredible story of Peter’s escape from prison and learn the power of the prayers of the church during this time. Help students understand the truth of James 5:16, “The prayers of a righteous person are powerful and effective.” Challenge students to take hold of the power they’ve been given and begin praying more often.
Week 5: PRACTICING PRAYER & CELEBRATING
Week 5 will be very different from the first four weeks. We’ve provided a number of ideas for putting into action all that has been learned. Plan ahead to make this a fun and meaningful event.
